I participate in an online program called Paperback Swap. ( http://www.paperbackswap.com/) You post books you want to trade, and if someone requests one of your posted titles, you mail it to that person. When it arrives, you get credit for one book -- which you can then use to request a book from all the titles posted on the website. No money changes hands. You pay for postage and that's it. Here you see me getting ready to mail a book to Montana. Right now I have credit for 7 books. I buy books for Maddie and occasionally out-of-print titles for the school library. I've also tried out new authors and filled in titles from series I enjoy. It's a great program, even if you aren't a librarian.
What a fun idea -- and a great way to pass on used and well-loved books. I might sign up and post some books. I remember an on-line program some years ago that encouraged individuals to leave books around in the community for others to find, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the program. Not sure it's still around, but it was a great and fun idea too.
That would definitely be in the too hard basket. I did join an overseas one that said it included Australia, I spent over $100 sending books out and never got anything back.
This wasn't one of those, it actually sounded like yours. I have about 20 accumulated credit points to "spend" and have requested to spend my points on many books but nothing ever happens.
