Final Word

As I turned to leave my observation post on Monument Avenue, I saw this cardboard sign tacked on a tree.
God Bless Jon Helwis! Who wouldn't be moved upon seeing this! Thanks for bringing his name to our attention.

10 years ago on the 28th our John lost his older brother to cancer, seemingly connected to the aftermath clean-up at the Twin Towers. Is there no family who doesn't think of a loved one when they hear of a cancer victim?

@Weezilou So true. Words can hardly express what one feels.

Have you considered a photographic essay book? You have a very special knack for finding and memorializing some of the most poignant photos, Allison. The juxtaposition of the runners, perhaps racing for a cure, and this message of stoic heroism will both haunt and inspire me for a long time to come. What a gift!

@bchewning BTW, love your screen name! You are so kind and I appreciate your making the effort to register on 365org. I guess I just like the lack of pressure of preserving the magic moments that I find without being responsible for anything more formal. (Maybe when I retire I will feel different!)

Sadly to hear of so many young people losing their lives, may it be due t to a serious illness, like in the case of John or because of careless drivers taking a life. it makes me sad and furious at the same time.
