I Can't Believe It's All Butter

Rows and rows and shelves and shelves of margarine, butter substitutes, imported butter (from Finland, no less) butter made with olive oil... the list is endless. How many choices do we need?
It is quite shocking, especially after spending time in a foreign country that has maybe 2 or 3 choices. Reverse culture shock! Cool shot.

The only reason why it's there is because people keep buying it! But yes, butter overkill for sure.

I agree, it is too confusing

Sometimes I look at the grocery store and have that same feeling. I wonder how much we really need. Sort of an embarrassment of riches.

What a brilliant observation! This is stunning! Little wonder people in many other countries raise their eyebrows about us Americans! On the other hand, we DO have the population to support the variety!

@Weezilou From the responses I have gotten so far, it appears most people are exhausted with all the choices they have to make all the time. Of course, if their product is one of those phased out ...

@allie912 I'll confess I'm a good example of a catered-to American. On many of our favorite food items, the choice may be "one company's product", so take it or leave it! No choosing by price. Since we're returning for a few weeks, I've made a list of foods I want to pack and bring back. It IS fun to bring foods to friends that they may have once experienced in America and now can't buy. And regarding the many choices, if people didn't buy it, it wouldn't be stocked, so "someone" would be unhappy if their favorite was no longer being carried. Too much of a good thing? Perhaps, but it's Capitalism at work keeping people in jobs and providing a product others want to purchase. (OK...enough! This is why I run out of time!)
