A food critic for a local weekly newspaper came to Mrs. Bennett's Fourth Grade yesterday to talk to the class about writing a restaurant review. Because he depends on anonymity to be able to review fairly, I assured him I would keep his identity secret. He had some interesting insights into reporting in general. The most important quality of a good reporter and in fact any writer, is curiosity. He also said it is much harder to write a bad review because he knows that no cook or restaurant owner begins the day wanting to do a bad job, so he tries to find a few good things to say in his review. Now it is up to the boys and girls to write reviews of their own. I think they have been inspired.
