Birthday Dinner at Shagbark

Not only is September 13th the birthday of children's author Roald Dahl, but also the birthday of my own sweet husband. We had such a good experience at the new kid on the block, Shagbark for our anniversary, we returned to celebrate our 2 birthdays. (Just one day apart) Here is what we ordered and a description of each.
John and I split an appetizer (upper left) of Point Reyes blue cheese and apple tart, made with spiced pecans, roasted shallots, honey from owner Walter Bundy's own beehives and thyme caramel. The crust looked like a biscuit but was a deliciously flaky crust. The contrast of sweet and savory was perfect.
John ordered Angus beef tenderloin (upper right) with country ham, Morbier and potato rosti, summer asparagus and black truffle hollandaise. He ate every morsel.
My choice was Grilled Outer Banks swordfish steak with Manikintowne chicories, shiitake, bacon and cured tomato hash, and truffled corn cream.
Everything was delicious. I had to bring some of my swordfish home. Needless to say, we did not order dessert.
About half the menu items were new since we visited in July so I guess they really are buying and serving local. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Happy Birthday wishes for your hubby. lovely dinner !!!!!!!

Looks delicious Alison, I never know whether to order a starter or save myself for a pudding. Sometimes I order two starters then I can finish with a pud!
