The End of an Era

Easter Sunday was the last day in which our sanctuary was used for worship before a renovation project changes the design and use of this space. Next Fall we will have a more flexible design that allows both our congregation and the community to make use of this great space. It has been a beautiful center for worship, but times change and so do people's needs. We look forward to what is it come.
I understand the poignancy when it's lovely as it is, but I know it will become more useful as that seems to be the plan!

Lovely shot, with the lines and light. Looks like such a peaceful space. Must be a bittersweet time for your congregation.

@eudora @Weezilou Our minister had a belief that this space is used basically an hour a week, unlike the rest of our facility, and we need to do something about that.

A beautifully simple space with very definite lines & angles.
Lots of our churches here in the UK have been redesigned to utilise the space better. I can quite see the reasoning in this but I am of the old school which likes a church to look like a church. Will be interesting to see what comes up, I'm sure you will all love it when it's done & wonder why it took you so long!

@happypat Two factors at play--the commitment required a capitol campaign, and the entire congregation had to get on board.

There is something really sad about this but I keep reminding myself, it's more important to connect with the community. Faith is never meant to be an inward thing- but a reaching out. We'll look forward to seeing what it becomes.
