The Rest of the Story

The plastic bag attached to the mail slot caught my eye, and the note on the door gave me the explanation.
“Please put mail in bag…dog had surgery yesterday.”
So here is what I don’t understand. Would the sound of the mail coming through the slot disturb the dog as he slept, or would the dog rise from his bed of pain to to chew on the letters? Like the late Paul Harvey, I would love to learn “the rest of the story.”

Maybe the dog always gets up and goes to the door when the mail person comes because they hear the letters being dropped through the mail slot. Perhaps the dog is not supposed to be getting up and down so if the mail doesn't come, the dog will remain resting. That would be my guess. Good catch! (And yes, it does require some interpretation!)
