W H Co 1919

Not a gravestone as some have thought but a boundary marker stone of the land that once belonged to William Hollins Company the textile company in Pleasely Vale. William Hollins was a remarkable man who built the cotton mills that are now small business units owned by Bolsover District Council. There is not much left now of the boundary structure and this stone is still in very good condition considering its age. If you would lke to lern more about William Hollins and Pleasley Vale do a search for "Pleasely Vale" and you will find a wealth of information, here's one link to get you started: http://www.mbarchaeology.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Pleasley-Vale-Journey-through-time.pdf

I really like these little markers from the past. They often point the way to fascinating historical detail if you do the research.
