Bees are so vital to our wellbeing and there is much to wonder at. Several deities are associated with bees and honey - Aphrodite, Vishnu, Pan, Cybele, and Ra, just to name a few. Author J.K. Rowling named Professor Albus Dumbledore for an archaic English word related to bees. ('dumbledore' means a loud buzzing insect, especially a bumblebee). Rowling says that when writing, she imagined the headmaster of Hogwarts "wandering around the castle humming to himself," and so chose to associate his name with bees.
