Music has the power to transport people to another world and to feed the soul. This is The Shirebrook Colliery Welfare Brass Band playing The National Anthem at the beginning of their joint concert with The Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir in All Saints church, Clipstone. Both band and choir are long-established, excellent music-makers.
The tradition of playing the National Anthem at the beginning of concerts has long since disappeared from most concert halls. Brass band and male voice choir - a combination to stir the soul.
@peadar Some of us would say "more's the pity"! I remember (with the warmth of childhood memories) standing for The National Anthem at the start and end of Saturday Morning Pictures in the 1950s.
I used to stand for the National Anthem if I was still up when BBC1 closed down at night too. I still do if I see something royal going on on the TV. Proper respect and tradition is terribly important. This concert sounds great.
