I recently tried to do zoom bursts again and mostly failed. I'm wondering if I should do this on a tripod to get the best effect? Is the goal to get the action object to be in focus?
This one wasn't what I was going for, but I did like effect and the look of the motion. The cyclist is clearly going very fast. I was going to submit this to my photo club for our motion theme this month, but didn't end up making the meeting. I wonder what kind of critique it would have gotten. Still need to figure out and practice panning more, too.
Busy week. Much to accomplish to prepare for our upcoming camping trip. Zoom, zoom...
This is SOOC with a slight crop (and maybe some play with the contrast and color). Also, please do not view if you are prone to motion sickness or seizures. Happy new week!
I really like this for conveying motion, Amanda. I think the chances of zooming and keeping the bike in focus are about nil - you want to try panning where the biker is parallel to the focal plane for that.
@roseolivia Check out the one in my other album today if you really want to feel sick. A funny story goes with it to make it worth the queasiness;). Thanks, lady!!
Great effect - I feel as if I (as viewer) and the cyclist are being drawn into a motion vortex which appears to be central to the foliage - Try it with the tripod to hold the vortex point on the rider if that is where you want it - although I find this very effective.
@taffy Aw, thanks for the fav, my friend. Can't wait to see beautiful Michigan and get in the cool. We've really cooled off in OH lately. It feels like fall. When do you head back to Chi-town?
Thanks guys. Next time I will go with a tripod when I attempt this. At least to see the effect with that. Also, forgive the SOOC reference (what i meant by that was that I accomplished the zoom without processing, I did it while I shot). So funny that I called it SOOC (yet with a slight crop and tweaking of the color/contrast). Sorry for you die hards out there;-). Glad that I did accomplish showing action. Perfect. Always appreciate your kind words and feedback, my friends!
@amandal End of 3rd week in August, in time for start of classes...sad sad sad. And dread walking into the house the first time without Nutmeg. We've never lived there without her.
@taffy :(. My kiddos start back up August 20. That's in just 3 weeks!!! Yikes. I saw someone say today that it's just a few week's til Fall. Where has the summer gone?! Sorry about Nutmeg. Hugs!
@amandal My first class is August 27th. When I joined 365 in January, I wasn't teaching at all -- research buyouts and Nutmeg focus -- so I can't imagine how to keep up with 365 with a full teaching/research load! I would really miss the everyday interactions, too!
@taffy Yikes, it will be tough. Hope that you can stick around in some capacity. I give myself lots of grace, take photos when I can and such. Not sticking rigidly to a photo a day (must be taken on that day).
Love your line on SOOC btw, 'crop and maybe some play with contrast and colour...' Teehee, you'll have the SOOC diehards climbing up the walls!
Feels like you are pacing right behind him.
Have fun in Michigan -- it's starting to warm up at last! It was a beautiful day today.
