Making Cookies with Clara by alophoto

Making Cookies with Clara

I have been in a photographic slump for a few days. I go for days from time to time when I have no interest whatsoever in picking up my camera. I did take it along yesterday and left it in the car and missed a deer shot as a result. Took it with me out this morning hoping to do my 5+2 freedom selfie, but it was drizzling. The weather is gross, our housing situation is up in the air (but slowly moving forward...hope to know for sure by next Thursday). Michael had a 365 and internet usage intervention for me this week. Ugh. Just feeling blah!

So, I decided to make cookies!!! I traded in the Red Riding cape for a mommy and me matching apron and Clara and I made some of my favorite cookies. Can you guess what kind from the clues? It's my grandma's old recipe and I have been thinking of her and missing her today. Clara got her name from her...Grandma called her her namesake, yet never got to meet my Clara:(. Only saw me very pregnant with her. I so wish she were still here and I could take her over a plate of fresh cookies today. I grew up going across the street to her place to visit and raid her cookie jar and never got a chance to repay the favor.

I want you to know that my hair out of place here is driving me nuts. It should have been back in a ponytail, dang it. I need a hair cut. Oh well. If you are in the area today, stop by for a cookie to help me get them out of the house. They are rather ugly and deformed, but still delicious. And that is all that matters, right?:)
Such a sweet intimate shot. Clara has her mums cheeks. I cant see her full face does she look very like you?

@chezza She is my mini me. It's crazy. I had another shot that showed her better, but my hair was AWFUL so I couldn't bear to use that one:). I'll tag you in a better shot of her.

Very cute! I miss these times with my kids they are all grown up now. Enjoy while you can!

This is lovely,Amanda! Cooking with mom is one of those memories she will never forget. How did the oatmeal cookies turn out? :)
September 19th, 2013
@mzzhope You win. Come on over and I'll send you home with a plate of them. Delish...but ugly. They didn't come off the pan well. Maybe I should have used cooking spray?
September 19th, 2013
Cute. Would never have noticed the hair had you not mentioned it...
September 19th, 2013
The wisp of hair adds a touch of candour to the image. Very homely.
September 19th, 2013
Granny's Oatmeal Raisin cookies are the bestest!! Fedex me two please :) Yeah, your hair was a distraction for me, but since you realized that a ponytail would have served you better, I'll give you a pass...kidding of course. Classic Mommy and Daughter shot. Really nice Amanda.
September 19th, 2013
Aah Amanda, you do sound down in the dumps, not really quite happy with anything. Wish I could pop in for an oat biscuit and cheer you up, but sadly many thousands of miles stop me from doing so. Chin up, tomorrow is another day and hopefully a brighter one!
September 19th, 2013
I love this shot. There's something about Mothers teaching daughters.
September 19th, 2013
A lovely shot! I'm guessing oatmeal chocolate chip... my favourite!
September 19th, 2013
can you send them to Brazil?? I love cookies!!! lol
September 19th, 2013
I'll second what @happysnap says,- and it is such a great thing to pass on to ones children! I made our two boys cook tea now and then to see what they hadn't learnt!
September 19th, 2013
A lovely rites of passage shot of mum and daughter. The connection to your Grandma is clearly important. Special people Grans.
September 19th, 2013
@seanoneill Truly. Thanks, Sean. I did another bonkers Red Riding Hood shot the other day...the red light version. I was grateful the police weren't out on patrol in my neighborhood that night as it would have been tough to explain my behavior and apparel. Oh boy...
September 19th, 2013
i love the loose hair stand like issi said. and this captured activity should be the most well remembered childhood shot for all women and their moms/grandmoms.... :-) delightfully candid.
September 19th, 2013
This is a lovely shot - sound like nice cookies too. I'm struggling for photo inspiration as well at the moment;
September 19th, 2013
@rachelwithey Bad weather kicks my butt!! Hope you get your mojo back. Wish we could go on a fun photo field trip together!!
September 19th, 2013
Oh I miss these days. All mine are much too old now, apart from when my daughter comes home and we share cooking chores, but it's not quite the same. This is such a lovely shot. I always think the more 'rustic' looking the nicer tasting a cookie is :o) xx
September 19th, 2013
@amandal now that would be a lot of fun.
September 19th, 2013
A lovely story... An intervention :) I find too much Internet usage a drain and sometimes it's nice to be camera free. then there is processing and cleaning up files. Takes a lot of work and sometimes I wonder why I do it, then the need to do it kicks in again. Wish I could join you for a cookie splurge.
September 19th, 2013
Great shot, so cute :)

This is a lovely shot, Amanda. From Red Light Riding Hood to Cookie Cooking Mum - what a girl!
September 20th, 2013
@snaggy I'm very versatile. Wait until tomorrow.:)

There's nothing like baking therapy for the blues! Misshapen cookies and a loose strand of hair are beautiful and imperfect and real -- what's important is the memories you're making with Clara. She'll hold them as dear as you do those memories of your sweet Grandma. Sending you hugs. Please don't be so hard on yourself ... it's all good. :)
September 20th, 2013
Yes, all that matters is how delicious they are. Tender moment Amanda, love the matching aprons.
September 20th, 2013
Do ope your feeling better! Treasured moments... miss my grand mom too, and hope you find your inspiration, seems to be a world wide phenomenon, seem to have lost mine too...
September 20th, 2013
Oops! Ope=hope

This is a very sweet, dear shot, and I can smell the cookies. Your grandmother is very happy knowing you are passing on the homecooked love!
September 20th, 2013
A very sweet shot. Another thing to be thankful for is at least you have hair, lol...
September 20th, 2013
Wonderful capture of motherhood in action. Love it. Brings great memories.
September 20th, 2013
a beauty of a shot and only made better by that hair out of place! The is motherhood at one of its greatest moments!
September 20th, 2013
yum
September 20th, 2013
Hey! popping in again, just to say i would have dropped in with the cookie bait,(inspite of a diet) if only to cheer you up, if i didn't have to skip over a few continents! :-)
September 20th, 2013
That is a beautiful shot and the kind you and Clara will look back years from now and remember warmly. I can imagine how stressful your situation is at the moment andn something has got to give, if it is 365/your camera for a little while it does not matter. Things will fall back into place soon. I love cookies but can't bake them as have a serious phobia of butter (I know I am a freak!). You made me remember my grandma's pancakes... Sugar am on diet. Back to work :-)
September 20th, 2013
Lovely mother/daughter capture - one for the family album for sure!
September 20th, 2013
Clara...such a lovely name!
September 20th, 2013
@tabbycat I ADORE her name. So underused. Joy is the middle too. It means Clearly Joyous and she is:). Thanks!
September 20th, 2013
Sweet~~~~You captured the " mother and daughter moment"here beautifully.. love cookies too:)
September 20th, 2013
A nice domestic scene. Oh - hair is overrated, and I'm living proof.
September 20th, 2013
beautiful capture!
September 20th, 2013
I love this shot, Amanda. I used to do this with my son. He loved being in the kitchen with me. Another one for that book or just pure memories.
September 20th, 2013
Love the 'mother & daughter cozy' mood in this shot Amanda.
September 20th, 2013
@rvwalker You crack me up, Ross. Thank you for that!:)
September 21st, 2013
@adamj Wish I could. I can't stop eating their amazingness. I did zumba today and go running tomorrow to avoid packing on the cookie pounds. Today I wore a ponytail in my selfie but was out of focus because I was jumping. Ack. I can't get it right! Happy freakin' Friday!

Thanks so much, my kind friends. I am so grateful for your encouragement and wonderful comments. They were oatmeal raisin cookies and I have been enjoying far too many of them. I wish more of you were local and I could have shared. It's the weekend. Yeah. Spirits are lifted. Hope you all have a great one!!!

Your ebb was much better handled than my ebb. :^)

And I like the hair out of place.
September 21st, 2013
Such a memorable camera capture. Enjoy the cookies, my daughter made some today, I'm getting too fat, I'll have to pass on the invitation. Wonderful capture.
September 21st, 2013
sorry to hear about it all. :(

I thought you and your daughter's hair looked great in this photo, first thing I noticed and then the oatmeal and then the cool hot red cooking pots!

Oh and here in PNG, everyone who shares the same name is called namesake.
September 21st, 2013
@bobfoto All better now. Thanks! Glad the hair looked ok despite the stray. Hair in the face is a little thing that drives me nuts. I'm always on the girls about keeping it out of their faces. I love red stuff (especially matching lipstick, dresses and nails;-). I like the namesake expression. I so miss my grandma. She was like another mama to me. I put off calling her near the end (I didn't know she was so close) and missed my chance to talk to her again and share with her something that I had been meaning to tell her. She lived where we are now and would have been so close to us.

@squamloon I just post tons of fillers during ebbs. And then I make some cookies. Thanks, friend. You are really doing great. I was so impressed with your recent selfie. That was art!

@cathrinemitch Aw, thanks so much, lady!!
September 22nd, 2013
A lovely natural shot.
