We did some quick family portraits yesterday when the mood struck me. We'd done one annually since we had kids and missed doing one last year as we were in the throws of a move and doing a family portrait is a rather stressful affair. It stunk, though that we didn't capture last year as a family to show how we aged and changed.
So despite no real planning, no coordination or care for our apparel and the fact that the light was bright and glaring, we went out and got some shots. And you know, even with those things against us, I think that the shots turned out pretty darn good. I was wanting to capture joy for my Mad Hatters shot this week. See the story behind this and my Mad Hatters version here: @madhatters
Saw this on the trending page before I read the title and thought "Happy Happy Joy Joy". I think I like the color version more but just because I didn't even notice the 4 legged family member in the black and white.
This would make an awesome Christmas Card photo. My family has had photo cards almost every year since 1944 when my parents started it. My husband and I have done it every year but two (before we had kids) since we were married 54 years ago. Oh -- and yes, getting those family photos every year has often been a very stressful time. I do understand that.
@aglennc We do them every year, too, and took a break last year. I just couldn't take on the stress in the midst of a move. It was nice to just do it and not stress so much yesterday. And this is how we really are. Not picture perfect, but good enough:). Thanks so much, Anita. Love that you all have the same tradition. I love seeing family photos like this...seeing how people change from year to year. It beats seeing just the kids, too. Love the kids, but want to see how my friends and family look, too!
What a fabulous set of shots. Your family shares big wonderful smiles and I love the way you've focused on your faces while make these such fun and appealing images. That is such a great tradition to have started and maintained.
This is so great! It shows a happy and very tight family, And it´s fun and unique family portrait. You are very lucky to have such awesome family & love in your life. I live alone with my cat so to me that looks like a great precious blenssing.
@amandal I agree. We used the kids in Christmas card photos alone two or three years when they were small. After that we decided people needed to see the whole family -- including, many years, the family dog or dogs.
This is such a great family photo, Amanda. You set it up so well and everyone is clear, looking at the camera and smiling too. I just realized your dog is in it too. Love it. FAV
