I needed a spin on it and this is what I came up with. Me all Gothic, a goth chick.
The hardest part was putting together a gothic outfit with my midwestern suburban housewife wardrobe. I just layered on the black stuff, got some black lipstick and nail polish on the Halloween isle, borrowed the pitchfork and went to a local deserted mansion.
As I was walking out the door, though, I glanced in a full length mirror and thought "Oh geesh, I look like a dominatrix!" and then I felt self conscious driving across town looking like that. Luckily, I didn't see many when I was out shooting, but when I did, I just kept my eyes down and focused on the task of being a pitchfork wielding Goth Chick. And I figured if anyone tried to mess with me, I had a pretty good weapon on my side.
LOL - I like this one too. Your neighbors must get such a kick out of you - can just imagine them peeking from behind curtains beckoning to each other - look she's out there again :)
@vega Truly! I did some real nutso stuff last year and was caught. This year I was out front in a pink bunny suit. This one was far from home. The neighbors moved away actually. Maybe I was too much for them.
This is awesome my friend. Such a dour look on your face! I believe it was the Addams family. So very cool to find a mansion and get the use of a pitchfork.
@bill_fe I need my very own pitchfork. I mean who doesn't?! Thanks, Bill!!! The lighting was so hard with the shadows and brightness. I eventually set the camera to auto...gave up.
The shots turned out great! I applaud your bravery. I am so chicken to take shots in public. I usually kick the dust and feel all ashamed if someone catches me. Hahaha!
@megstorey This time I was pretty embarrassed as I looked so unlike myself. Thanks, Meg. I do like not getting caught, though better stories come from those times:).
you didn't dress up mike for this? haha! did you have to buy those really dark lipstick to get your goth look? you look like a rebel here but not gothic. wonderful, kiddo!
@summerfield A gothic friend, that I didn't realize was goth, told me I should have borrowed stuff from her. Yep, this was the best I could do with what I had. I bought the lipstick and nail polish.
OK, so I love the background in the other one, but this fits the AG so much better, probably because you have a more demented/disturbed look about you!! The other one could be a poster for a cool club, like the Limelight in NYC that used to be in a building that had been a church!!
@bobfoto That's right, end of first year, right? I looked like a very conservative and lumpy one perhaps (moreso with hat and spiked bracelet from other barn version?). My goth friend here told me I didn't look goth, but I just went with what I had. I should have borrowed stuff from her. Hey, tag me if you think to with your last shot so I don't miss your goodbye/see off party. Regardless of how I looked or what i looked like here, I was uncomfortable in public.
@amandal - it is interesting to note the difference in WB between this shot and the one of you in front of the black barn. Subtle differences in your skin tone and lipstick colouration. I agree, the hat and bracelet version does look a little more "attitude" than this one.
@bobfoto the light was very dappled in front of the house, and super bright here. Hard to get the lighting right. House shots were last, so the lipstick may have faded. I just had some training/lessons with a professional and learned M settings more. But yet seem to have more trouble knowing a bit more than I had before. The last shots were shot in Auto. I gave up with the hard lighting.
@bobfoto You know, I tried and it wouldn't work here. I was doing the 10 second run thing. Sometimes in the bright light or with a certain distance, the remote doesn't work. I've also found it tough to get into position and lose the remote in the 2 seconds the darn thing gives me. I need 5 or 10 seconds sometimes. Had a hell of a time with that with another shoot this week.
@bobfoto Are Aussie and Kiwi accents similar? Last night, we watched a video with a man from New Zealand narrating and I wrongly guessed he was Australian. Is that like asking if Chicagoans and New Yorkers sound the same?
@darsphotos I didn't even think to include him. It's honestly just easier to do things on my own, like this anyway. He grumbles at my photos often so I do these on my own time. Maybe sometime I will do a redo:).
@seanoneill Funny how old can mean many different things...old as in age, as in longstanding and as in former. Maybe even more things. Glad to give you some education. I've seen it before in Chicago. It's now at our local art museum and I should go in and see it again. So appreciate the kind fav, my very young friend. Hope all is well with you and your family. Love to you all.
@bobfoto Ok again:). Got it this time.
