Yesterday we attended an airshow at a local airport. It was AWESOME!
Not only did we get to see some amazing planes flying overhead, but we had a special pavilion for Michael's work team, a catered lunch, great seats for the show, and we also got to tour some planes on the ground. A super fun day and event.
I took more photos on one day than I remember taking before (or at least hugely more than normal). Over 500. Bogged down in sorting them now. Only just made a dent.
But this was the shot that I was more excited about. This poignant moment between soldiers. Soldiers swapping their tales, sharing a bond that I could never understand as a civilian. A beautiful moment. Life is full of these moments. I always feel blessed to witness them, and even better when I have a camera to capture it.
Technically, the one "soldier" is an airman, but the wheelchair does appear to have an Army symbol on it. The sentiment is still the same, though. Service members swapping stories. Fabulous shot. I am normally a color gal, but I think I like this one better in B&W. Gives it some history.
I like the colored one best, but then I tend towards color more anyway!! It's always awesome to see soldier to soldier talking together, no matter what branch they come from!! It's stories only they can relate to and it makes me sad that only they can understand them!! This is a fantastic and moving photo Amanda!! FAV!
Color takes away from the soldiers I think, agree with Maggiemae. I didn't even notice that other plane in the background till I saw the color slide . I think it really draws your eye away from the men.
@lesip I felt like the color wasn't amazing and didn't really add anything but distraction...so good. I think people are drawn about it, though. Oh well.:)
Yes, poignant is certainly the right way to describe it. And I think it has a more powerful feel in b&w. It is more than simply a snapshot in that version -- it conveys a timeless story.
The B&W version gets my thumbs-up. Sans color, it's bold, straight to the point, all about the soldiers. Great capture, Amanda. Glad you're going to share lots more pictures from this day.
Oh yes, I was going to answer your question. I prefer the b/w. While both are good, to me with the color some of the background colors tend to pull my eye away from the two men talking.
@amandal - What time should I be there? We were supposed to have an air show at the Air Base at Youngstown this year. I don't know what happened other than the cuts to the defence budget.
Great capture!! I bet they have some stories to tell!! Is this a nationwide thing? I think they had an airshow in San Diego last weekend, too! As a matter of fact, I decided to purchase my Tamron lens after I attended a lecture about how to shoot aircraft for the show, and they were planning all these photo get togethers for the event.
