People have often mixed up my age over the years. I was always plagued with looking younger than I was. Not super great for a young woman who wants to look mature. I've had youthful looks much of my life.
When I was 20 years old, I boarded a bus with my mom and sister and the driver said, "One adult, 2 children" to tell my mom the correct fare. Children were 10 and under! I was in a rotten mood the rest of the day.
At 23, I attended my little sister's high school football game (she was 16). Someone saw us, pointed and said "Twins!" Honestly?! I was so far out of highschool and my teens. That annoyed me then.
And now, I have become "maam" at the grocery store. I am no longer carded when I buy alcohol. I'm missing being thought I was so young. I take back the previous annoyance over it.
Worse yet, just the other day, I was out shopping with my son. The cashier asked me how I was and I said "Fine, but I wish it was Saturday." Saturday is the 50% discount at the store day. That day's discount was for age 50 or older. The cashier asked me (who just turned 40) if I was 50 or older. Noooooo, too far in the other direction. I am hoping perhaps she didn't look at me before she spoke? But, she may as well have asked me when my baby was due, too. Yep, that has happened to me, too!
Ah, how I would love to be in my 40s again! Although, my 50s were the best. This is a wonderful selfie! With your obvious love of life and sense of humour, you will never grow old!
It's just a number. That said, I hated 30, but 40 was a blast! 50 was — Hmm; I can't remember 50! Now I'm staring down 60 in less-than-a-week. But I've been retired for more than two years, so they can say whatever they want, but mostly it's something like "You're too young to be retired." Nope, I'm not and I've taken 4 long trips (and counting) because I'm still "young enough" for the long flights! You look great, especially the smile, which *always* takes off years! :)
I really enjoyed your description and my experiences of life are much the same, I always looked a bit younger also and indeed not great when you wanted to be mature and look like an adult. I was always the one asked to show ID when entering the clubs -and I was the oldest of the bunch! But now I´d like like to be asked, even once. You don´t look 50, not at all and I don´t think you look 40 either. Luckily for me I don´t look my age either, I can pass a 5 years younger and that´s a blessing.
Look on the bright side. Ever since I had children people ask me if I'm their grandmother. And on Wednesdays at Publix they automatically apply the senior citizen discount. And I'm okay with that.
I'm loving all the comments ... I was the same way and feeling the same way you did. Who knew we'd regret what we wished for. I used to answer the door and they'd ask if my mom was home? Nope and I'd shut the door and smile. Enjoy your 40's mine were great , what I can remember anyway. I can't believe I'll be 60 next year. I'm having a real hard time wrapping my head around that number :-( I'll be back to read more comments and it will be easy if I fav you ...lol I do fav you !!!
Welcome to your 40s! It's the new 30s, apparently. Or that's what I'm telling myself.
Btw, your photo is very cute. You look great.
And you look lovely.
Nice photo :)
