Those of us living in London may have noticed bright blue cycle lanes appear just recently. Followed closely by the appearance of docking stations which have now been filled with bikes for hire.
All part of Mayor Boris Johnson's master plan to get us out of our cars and off the tube and onto bikes.
I had no idea why the bike lanes were painted bright blue until a colleague informed me the scheme was sponsered by Barclays Bank. And sure enough, all the bikes available for hire and emblazoned with their logo..
Not really happy with this photo, taken at the junction of New Road and Whitechapel Road, but I was starting to attract the attention of the local drunks who frequent the benches at the junction as I took today's pic.
Have just been looking online and it ain't cheap!!! Access fee of £1 per day + £6 for 2 hours use + one off membership fee (£3).. Other charges include £15 for 4 hours, £50 for 24 hours and £150 late return..!!!
This is taken from TfL's own website "To hire for more than a couple of hours it might be cheaper for you to use a company that specialises in hiring for longer periods".....!!!
Think I'll walk....lol....
Busy at work sorting out the annual report (yep, was doing this before my annual leave) but thought I'd take a break to upload today's image.
It all looks very tidy and well organized in your picture, but a large enpense for getting around, it seems! I'm betting it's there to stay, though...how do you take away a bike lane once they're in place?
LOL... You paint over it... :-)... But seriously, I think it's here to stay as well. It's actually a good idea but a tadge expensive. Although have read it's free for 30 minutes - apart from access and membership fee and PROVIDING you can find a docking station at your destination..
Nice to see this finally up and running. First saw this in Paris where it first originated I think. (see my pic for 8 July) Seems a tad expensive tho'.
I think the shot's great. We tried to rent these bikes when we were in Paris but because we don't chip our credit cards in the US, none of the machines would accept our card. I was so disappointed!!
Check our red cycles!
We have bickes for rent at several metro stations here in São Paulo.
