All comments and suggestions gratefully received on this one- it's a brand new direction for me and I've never attempted this kind of thing before. The point of 365, huh?
In the meantime, HUGE thanks to my fantastic 17 year old for being a willing muse. We giggled our way through most of this session!
@jackie8 I'm so glad you like it, Jackie. It's a lovely record for me and hubby as parents but I wasn't sure if it was going to be ok at all as a portrait. Thank you for your positive comments. Any suggestions of how to improve it?
My first thought was.... strong, which is good for a male portrait.... if I was to say anything, I'd maybe have got all his face and head in on the left hand side as the right hand side is in deep shadow... but really, I think this works just fine as it is... keep experimenting, it's how we learn and progress!
Love this - very raw and natural. Some of my favorite portraits of my kids were ones that I took before I knew what I was doing with people. funny that.
Great job! What does your son think of it? If you have a photo of a teen who likes the photo, then you have a winner! =) To me, it makes the viewer want to stare at it, and wonder what he is thinking. The expression is great!
Interesting shot. I think I agree with the comment about maybe having included the whole length of the face instead of cropping in quite so close, but that's the kind of thing I can never be sure about till I see it, some times I guess right, sometimes not.
@jackie8@gardencat Thank you both for your suggestion. One of the reasons it is cropped quite so close is that James' head was actually slightly tipped to the side so I had to crop it to straighten it. I had another shot as a possible where I did have all his face but I liked the lighting better in this one. Aint it the way? A definite thought for the future though.
