Macclesfield Treacle Market by angelar

Macclesfield Treacle Market

A sunny day finally dawned for the monthly Treacle Market in our town. The stall holders were in fine spirits and therefore so were the customers!
Glad the weather cleared for it. Nice collection of shots!

@marybethosullivan Treacle is a rather glutinous and very sweet stuff that gets used in cakes and on bread for breakfast. It never occured to me it wouldn't be a universally known substance! Our town is commonly known as "silk town" since we were the centre of the silk industry so we have the silk road, a silk museum and our local brass band are the silkmen. However, we also get referred to as "treacle town" as sometime at the beginning of the century, a transport vehicle overturned on the silk road and spilled it's load of treacle everywhere. When the local powers that be resurrected our thriving market, they decided to call it the treacle market in honour of our nickname. So endeth this lecture for the Macclesfield branch of the cheshire tourist board!!!
