We were at a great jazz concert by the New Orleans Z'hulus and I took lots of photos from my position on the floor at the front but I thought I'd try something different so had a go at taking the fantastic clarinet player with a half second exposure. I quite like the result and it conveys to me the feel of the evening and the super music. What do you think?
@carlt@jocasta Thank you both. I wanted to try something different but it's always great to have feedback on whether you've managed to create anything worth viewing!
Hello Angela!
Here's my critique as you requested from the mentor project :)
I really like what you've gone for here. It's unusual and starts to tell a story. I think if you were to try it again I'd suggest trying to zoom out or stand further back so you have the whole instrument in the shot to help fill in the image or even try a panning shot so the musician is in focus and the background blurs. Just some ideas to play with. :)
@mei_photography Thanks... erm what do I call you?! Great ideas. I actually deliberately zoomed in to get a really intense feel but I take what you mean about having all the clarinet in- if I'd accepted a wider angle, I could have later selected what I wanted which would have been better. I chose this shot from the 3 or 4 I'd taken because I wanted some definite image of the musician and then the movement but panning certainly would have been worth a go- never thought of that!
