This was maybe the third time I cooked Janssons frestelse (Jansson's temptation). It is a traditional Swedish casserole made of potatoes, onions, pickled sprats, bread crumbs and cream. It is common in Finland too, but I never saw it as a child. Maybe that's why I have not cooked it even if I like it very much.
I had to Google "pickled sprats", but when I did, up popped "Jansson's temptation"! Except for the fish, that would be the way we'd make "Scalloped potatoes". It sounds delicious, and a nice way to experience eating "a foreign food dish"!
