I love the 'Mies vailla menneisyyttä'. However, when I sent a copy of it to my American friends, they didn't get heads or tails of it -- what with people not s p e a k i n g ! :-)
@octogenarian Soon after "Mies vailla menneisyyttä" (The Man Without a Past) won the Grand Prix at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, I was at a conference in Dublin. I was the only Finn there. At the lunch I heard some people, probably Irish, speaking good words about that film. It was only then that I understood that Aki Kaurismäki was famous abroad. Now that I really saw those films, I know that I love them.
@annelis Interesting that the Irish would love them. But for Americans they are much too slow, and the silence is also too much. ;-)) I am glad I learned to love them, and having the DVDs I can watch them over and over.
