Many people I know have had these large and colorful birds at their feeders the past week. There seem to be a lot this year. I suspect they are just hungry from migrating and will soon start finding their own food.
@mej2011 Agree completely about the dark eye in the dark head. I have the same problem with Tree Swallows and Black-Capped Chickadees. I had to take quite a few photos of this species before I caught some light reflecting off the eye, which set the eye off. The rest of the pose is a little awkward, but I had to go with the best eye shot. Thanks for your comment.
