Tundra and Trumpeters

Today I was able to catch our two native North American swans, both with black bills, side by side. The three on the left are a Trumpeter Swan family (grey one is the cygnet) and the smaller swan on the right is a Tundra swan. Besides the size difference, there are subtle differences in the eye and bill. If you see a swan with an orange bill, that is a Mute Swan, an introduced European species.
Interesting shot, Anne. Than you for all the information. Where I live (UK) we have a lot of mute swans and one or two blacks which visit occasionally. They are not native here but presumed to be the offspring of escapees from private collections imported from Australia.

@wordpixman Thanks for your comments and follow. People here like the Mute swans, but some states are trying to control (shoot) them because they complete with the native swans and ducks, and are extremely territorial while breeding. It's controversial.

We don't get swans at all. I always like seeing photos of them - especially good ones '-)
