American Woodcock by annepann

American Woodcock

Just spent the weekend birding at Magee Marsh in Ohio. The warblers were hard to find, but I saw some other cool birds from the boardwalk like this Woodcock. They are about pigeon size and probe the ground with that long bill for worms to eat. I'll probably never be able to get a better shot of this secretive species.
Great capture

What a beautiful shot! I have only seen one here in 30 years. It arrived on a stormy, snowy night, poked its beak into the ground for a few hours and left.
