didn't take exactly the same shot, so not a proper comparison. Thing is, I feel uneasy with the phone, because I always have my cameras on their strap round my wrist. But if I get some sort of cover, that will make it bulkier?

Not much - a cover makes it a lot less slippery!

I always use a wallet style cover gives good protection and I don't find it a hindrance.

Yes you need a cover! Less likely to drop it. Which I did once and cracked the glass. Bad, very very bad.
