He makes a cute photo. But looking at the EXIF, you used f4.6 aperture which will produce a very shallow DoF.

@ellida I took it on auto - this, and one of the background - but (now I've downloaded pse13 onto my laptop) copying and pasting sharp dog doesn't work because out of focus dog is much bigger - and scaling 'in focus dog' up doesn't properly cover out of focus dog. More work needed!

Agree with Graham. Set your aperture to 16 for an in focus background as well, and then the edits will become a lot easier. Fenwick looks cute. Guess we will see quite a lot of him this year?
