I'm practicing with the creative settings, trying this and trying that. What better place to practice than in my garden. These are my rain bells; they are supposed to bang into each other when it rains and make noise. They don't make noise but they're cute anyway. I can't seem to get rid of that blur; it's not intentional. Shall I just "embrace the blur?"
The blur is from the wide aperture setting.Try using the close up setting or if you have manual control like my powershot a710, set the aperture to a higher number.
@wendyfrost Thank you, Wendy! Do you have rain bells? And they make noise? Mine only make noise if I go out and shake them! HaHa! I'm glad that you like the blur. I would like it too if I wasn't trying so hard to get rid of the blur. Feeling a bit discouraged I guess. Have you tried out your new camera yet?
@bill_fe Thank you so much for your input, Bill! I will try a higher aperture. I do have manual settings available on this camera and I've recently started trying to work with them. I have aperture settings available from 2.8 up to 8.0. This shot is 3.2. On this shot I did not use the macro. If you used an 8.0 aperture setting, would you suggest also using the macro setting? Thank you!
@april16 You most likely wouldn't need the macro setting at 8.0, but you will need plenty of light. I think it would work for this shot. Just keep experimenting with the settings, in time, you'll learn what works best. Try just changing one setting at a time until you get used to what it provides before trying other settings such as shutter speed changes.
No April I haven't any but always wanted some I have seen them tinkling together in the rain. I have not had much time to try my new camera yet had a busy two weeks now hubby in hospital again.
I've never seen any of these they look like fun.
What have you got your metering set on? Centre spot, centre weighted, or multi metering? Maybe centre weighted may be best for this shot.
@bill_fe Good tips, thank you. I tried the same shot again today with and without the macro setting at 8.0 aperture. It looks much more in focus. I liked the shot without the use of the macro setting slightly better. Thank you again for your help!
@onewing Thank you, Babs. I'll have to do a little research on metering, I'm not sure what it is. I've got so much to learn! Thank you for your comments. The rain bells are cute; they're little metal cups and they catch rain. They're supposed to clink into each other in the rain and make noise like a wind chime in the wind but they don't make any noise. They look pretty in the garden though.
