My last knitting project

Ellen @redcamerad3300 I'm sorry I haven't posted for awhile. Here is a photo of my latest craft project and my last for a while, I'm afraid. While I was working on this afghan for myself my middle finger on my left hand started aching, but I just wanted to get this done, so I persevered. Since completing it about a week and a half ago, my finger isn't improving and I'm having trouble making a fist with my left hand and grasping things. If I bend my middle finger too severely it pops back up like a spring loaded hinge, not good when you're trying to write or cut with a sharp knife! My brother thinks he is suffering from "Viking finger" or Dupuytren's contracture and I wonder if I may have it too. The pain is in my palm at the base of the middle finger, also. Although this disease seems to affect men mostly, 6% of women of Northern European descent can succumb to it. I guess the Vikings were on the British Isles as well as most of the Northern parts of the planet. I may have a double whamy for this as I have Swedish and Scottish ancestry. So, I don't know when I'll be able to hold a brush or pencil to sketch. But I shall cheering all of you on as you keep up with your artistic endeavors.
@redcamera How awful for you Ellen! Beautiful knitting but you obviously overworked your hand. I hope that you’re soon be able to paint again. Take care of yourself x Jacqueline

my goodness, where are all these ailments coming from! @theredcamera - my sister had that affliction last month but luckilyon her left hand and not on the right, but like yours, it's the middle finger and the pain is on her palm. her doctor diagnosed it as 'arthritis' but when the pain became so severe, she was given an injection and it now seemed better. she was told though that the relief would be temporary. on a lighter note, i shall tell her that she probably has 'viking' blood, no matter how miniscule.

ellen, i hope you will heal soon with adequate rest and we will all be praying for you. take care of yourself, my friend.♥♥♥

@theredcamera Ellen, that is so sad to hear. I really hope together with you that it will soon get better.
Can you still take photos? That might be a replacement for the artsy fartsy activities.
Take care and hope to see you active in the gang sooner than we know.
That looks like great knitting. And it is a great selective colour shot. Is it selective colour or is the thread gray?

@theredcamera This must be so frustrating for you. Hoping that with rest and medical advice you can return to the hobbies that you love sooner rather than later. Take care. 💐

@theredcamera I love this photo of your craft becauase it looks like great SC, but am so sorry it has caused you so much pain. You should try using the other hand to paint! We sure would not judge your attempts at "modern" art! I shall continue to keep you in my prayers! I like @monikozi suggestion for you too!

@jacqbb Thanks for your kind thoughts. I hope I can just let it rest for awhile and see what happens.

@salza Thank you so much. A little rest never hurt anything!

@summerfield Thank you for your thoughts and relating what your sister went through. It actually maybe arthritist, but the diagnosis maybe the same: "you have to live with it". I've read there are steroid injections for this malady.... I hope to just give it a rest and see...I so don't like Doctors!

@monikozi Thank you for extending your thoughts. Luckily I can take photos, as most of the manipulation is with the right hand. I am vey much enjoying taking photos outdoors now that the weather is better.

@grammyn Thank you for your thoughts and the suggestion of using my other hand could really stretch my creativity and co-ordination!

@kjarn Thank you Kathy, I appreciate your thoughts and feed back on my craft. Rest and little strain may do the trick this summer, as I don't really craft during the summer months!
