Emu and sheep - 14-02

I was driving along the road locally to where I live and spotted this emu in a field with a heard of sheep. Not something you see around here everyday.
Apparently its actually a "rhea"

@arncliffe Yes I do especially on the Michael Parkinson show! To be honest it seemed friendly it came over to me I felt sorry for it. I think it must have escaped from somewhere probably because of wind damage.

I've seen emus and sheep kept together in a couple of places in the Peak District, I just assumed they were a good mix, able to get along and share a field! Nice shot :)

@craftymeg I think it has escaped from a place that keeps them which is not too far away not sure if they are farmed or pets.

Well spotted, maybe they kept it with the sheep, though these birds are ususally kept with others of its kind, so you must be right that it might have escapedfrom somwhere else. Great btw

Great capture...would love to know the back story here although I suspect you are quite right about it escaping from somewhere!
