i am quite sure that no one will enjoy this as much as i do, but the impetus behind this shot was by far the funniest, sweetest moment of my day!
my youngest had to make a 'time line' of important events in his life thus far for school. in preparation, i asked him to brainstorm for a bit about what he wanted to include, and told him to write down everything that he thought was important, memorable, or exciting. i loved the list he came up with, all on his own. it is as follows (in date order):
1) august 1999--birth
2) july 2000--started talking (first word: 'dog')
3) december 2003--first ate a hot dog
4) november 2004--salvation
5) august 2005--started school at CHA
6) december 2006--baptism
7) november 2007--new pet, ginger
8) december 2009--got a PS3
9) february 2010--milton died (our 17 yr old dachshund)
10) february 2010--new pet, charley
while if i had done this for him, i would have included almost all of events he listed, i most likely would NOT have placed such importance on THE FIRST TIME HE ATE A HOT DOG!! i cracked up!! granted, his first hot dog was at disney world, but still...
i love him.
*i actually captured the memorable event--this photo is it!! (:
I laughed at the hot dog and PS3 - kids are so sweet and innocent! I remember doing an autobiography for English when I was 12-ish and remember including all my pets, haha! :D
This shot is tooooo cute - so cute that you actually captured it!
OMG, that is too funny!!! I was confused at first knowing this was him but way too young, now it's clear as day. I guess hot dogs are more important than most of us realize:)
How adorable!!! I loved the list! It's too cute that he included his first hot dog, and even better that you had a photo of it! ;-) Isn't it funny, the things kids find important? They are so much wiser than grown-ups! ;-)
awwww so sweet--I love how he also mentioned salvation--wow!! I'm thinking about asking my kids (who are teens) just to see what their asnwers would be!! :)
That's a great shot and a funny story. I have a similar story about Lauren when she was 6 years old. We were over in Germany for 2 years and early in our stay there we went to a castle. Well it just so happened that the day we visited a castle, Lauren blew her first bubble with bubble gum. So what was most important about that day ... not the terrific scenery ... not the first time seeing a real medieval castle ... but ... I blew my first bubble! Kids are great. I can really see by your pictures and stories that you are a great parent. Your kids are very lucky to have such an involved and caring mom. Thanks for sharing your story!
To this day I love hearing about the things my girls remember as it's not always the perspective I had of their lives! How perfectly your photo and son's list fits, too! As parents, there's so much joy in just listening to them share their thoughts...and oh! the things you'll learn! This is a delight, Brett!
@pinktornado39 it wasn't from our lack of trying!! i'd love to say something like, 'oh, we only fed him the healthiest of foods...' but the truth is that all that kid would eat was chicken from chickfila and fries (from anywhere)!!!
It just goes to prove that certain things definitely leave an impression. I am impressed with the list actually. Nice memory on his part. And I could eat a hot dog every day. Love them.
