St John the Baptist Church, Doddington, Kent

Day 136 - This present church building probably dates back to the 12th century, there is evidence that a church has existed on this site since Saxon times and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The weather-boarded, square tower was erected in the early 19th century, replacing the previous tower which was destroyed by fire in 1643.
How interesting! The tower looks like a child's play casthe added on!

I'm with @rvm - they could have tried a tiny bit harder to match things up! Still - it makes it memorable - and I'm sure the congregation love it.

Lovely leading lines but the weatherboard looks incongruous which is a pity

@rvm @anniesue @fbailey Thank you for your comments, the tower does look totally out of place on such an old building 😊

Love the path leading the eye to the open door, the tower is really strange.

@chrisiow Thank you for your comment, I wanted to walk up the path to the open door but I wasn't sure if I was trespassing 😡
