Day 99 - These two look like the best of friends, but don't be fooled, the black one was protecting his mate who was nesting on the bank, every time the white one got anywhere near the bank the black one reared up and flapped it's wings - but I wasn't quick enough to catch it!
That’s an amazing capture Michelle. May I ask where it was taken? I seem to have it in my head that I’d heard somewhere that black swans aren’t allowed to breed here because they’re not native. Perhaps it’s just strictly controlled. It would be interesting for you to monitor their progress.
@chrisiow Thank you for your comment and your 'fav' 🙂 @mittens Thank you for your comment, I love watching them glide along the water 🙂 @fbailey Thank you 🙂 @carole_sandford Thank you for your comment - I've never seen them rear up in the water like they did 🙂 @suzanne234 Thank you 🙂 @louannwarren Thank you for your comment 🙂 @ludwigsdiana Thank you 🙂 @susiemc Thank you - this was taken a Leeds Castle (my 2nd favourite haunt to take pictures) they must have a breeding programme as I've taken pictures of black sygnets 🙂 @mandygravil Thank you - I don't think I'd want to be near them if they are having a hissy fit, I can't run that quick! 🙂 @sangwann Thank you for your comment 🙂
They look so beautiful together. It's amazing how aggressive birds can be protecting their mates and territory. I'm amazed at how even the tiny hummingbirds attack each other when they're in the 'protective' mode.
