Day 307 - Over at my favourite haunt (Elmley Nature Reserve) for a quick look around and spotted this bird hunting along the water, I'm not sure what it is other than a bird of prey!
Note: I've now found out it's a male Marsh Harrier
@susiemc No idea where you are located... and that's a great thing to know.... but it is in the Harrier family.... our Northern Harriers here are called Marsh Hawks or Marsh Harriers .... so there is a connection between our worlds !
And because I am a bit of a Harrier fan.... we had one at work until he passed away....I fav'd it .... I will have to post a picture of "Harry" .... he was a gorgeous birds and to this day remains one of my favorites....
@chrisiow Thank you for your comment @jeanniec57 Thank you for your lovely comment about this lovely bird, I've now found out it's a male Marsh Harrier and I am located in Kent in the UK @susiemc Thank you for your comment @jakey Thank you for your comment
@bigmxx It is an awesome capture... and if you look up Northern Harrier you will see a lot of similarities.... they hunt by listening more than other birds of prey (diurnal anyway) and it's still cool that various species occur here and there!
@jeanniec57 I agree they are so similar! @koalagardens Thank you for your comment @tonygig Thank you for your comment @gemmabrowne Thank you for your comment, I also love birds of prey and can spend hours just watching them!
@bigmxx Very cool image no matter the name of the creature ...
Interesting fact about the NORTHERN Harriers here in the US - the FEMALES are brown and the IMMATURES are brown ...the males are GREY .... and the grey males been nicknamed the Grey Ghost..... just thought it was an interesting fact .....
