Day 315 - This is a surviving part of the old Church of All Saints, Murston. This structure is all that remains of the original church that was built around the 12th or 13th century in an early English style. A new church was built in 1833, leading to the demolition of most of All Saints, except for the central chancel, which was used as a mortuary chapel. The Church’s altar, one of its bells, sundry corbels and three pillars were incorporated into the remaining building, the last burial took place in 1920. From the 1960's onward the site saw severe vandalism where elements were smashed and stolen, luckily in 1976 the site was saved from demolition by the Cromarty Trust, the site has been used for a range of community activities and plans are being drawn up for the lands future use incorporating this building for the community. This poppy display and the rocks were done by the people of Murston.
