The top picture is the Abbey Mills Pumping Station, in east London, which was built in 1868 and was used to pump London's sewage to a treatment plant about 5 miles away. The bottom left picture shows the remains of a pump on display outside of the pumping station. The bottom middle and right pictures are of The Greenway, which is a 5 mile raised footpath along the northern outfall sewer and passes alongside the pumping station. It is a beautifully calm walkway as it is traffic free.
@suesmith Many thanks. Yes, it is an interesting building. If you are in the UK it is normally open to the public in September as part of the Open House London event.
