I love old buildings that have signs on the sides of them. It is so interesting to see how companies used the walls of buildings to advertise long before billboards were even thought of.
This one in on the Union Bank Building on Jasper Avenue. I find it really interesting that the Cunard Lines would advertise in Edmonton which is no where near a sea port.
This also has a second sign which is the neon sign for the hotel. The Union Bank Building is now the Union Bank Inn
like you, i love looking at those old signs on buildings. no clutter and much 'greener'. i seriously think billboards should be banned if we want to preserve the environment. they also use up a lot of hydro. nice shot.
I love old signs too. They're classy. My dad used to work for a rubber importing/exporting co. many years ago. I believe (if my memory serves me correctly) Cunard also had trucking interests which might explain why they'd be advertising in Edmonton. Good catch.
I love those too. One of my favorites are the old Mail Pouch tobacco barns. I have a few great shots of them. Every time I find old painted signs like this I try to shoot them.
This is lovely, In Amsterdam some of those old wall signs are repainted, the way they looked around 1900, Hope they will save more of them the followig years. Its worth to keep some of the past.
This is a rare find! Nice to see some pics of Edmonton. Our daughter and her family just moved there from the east coast. He is in the air force. Wish I was going to be around longer but I finish the 365 n a few week and will probably not continue.
Amazing how buildings over the years have changed ownership..you're right what is Cunard Line advertising, I guess they were in the cruise business at that time. I came over on one of their ships..took 21 days from Hamburg Germany to New York. that was in 1955.
