Pedestrians Only

I promised another view of Rice Howard Way. This view is looking west onto the portion that is closed to all traffic. It is quite busy during the day and is in the beginning stages of some renovations
The sculpture is named The Big Rock and is a seven metre high 40 tonne sculptue using pink Quebec granite with a small fir tree on top. The artists insist that the inspiration comes from the Alberta Badlands
Love the little fir tree all the way up there. beautiful shot.

awesome, nice reflections in the buildings, and the cute little fir tree will one day be a big fir tree.

Lovely shot. Those buildings are impressive. Interesting rocks, too.

Quite interesting the difference in height of the sculpture, the tree and then the highrise buildings. would love to see this picture during the day with some of the traffic.

Love seeing your city shots

I really like this scene with all its contrasts--the trees and granite sculpture against the modern buildings, the dark and light.... well done--a fav.

Love the "texture" contrast between the rock and other buildings. Interesting about the small tree. Highrise construction builders here always place a small evergreen tree on top of their buildings when they're finished for "good luck!" They don't leave them there tho.

Stunning scene

Nice shot- I love the reflection of the building on the building. It's a great ilusion. Interesting sculpture. Is it a live tree? Are they expecting to let it grow to full size, or replacing it every now and then?

I live in Minnesota and it's done in many places in the U.S. It's a symbolic gesture called "Topping Out" . . is put on a beam at top of finished structure. Done for "growth and luck!"
