The Edmonton Public Library turned 100 years old this year. This is the front of the main library downtown. To honour the occasion the EPL is offering people the chance to get a new library card for free. It is good for one year. They are also offering a prize of a trip to New York City
Nice shot, Brian. What a nice treat of a free library card for a year. It has been a long time since I have been to a library and never have paid for a card. Is this something new for you?
Great shot and interesting building. 100 yrs is a long, long time! Hope you win the trip to NYC. You don't have to pay for library cards at any time here. They are free.
Lovely shot and how nice they have a sign up for the 100th year. I used to work at a library and now do volunteer work there. Our cards were always free.
@rhos The city had actually thought about doing a major renovation to the front of the building but decided this was a more fiscally responsible choice
Nice lighting in this architectural capture! Congrats on 100 years for the library! The future of the library is a bit different now with all the electronic media available.
Well captured and a great celebration. I bet that library has seen a lot of change in the last 100 years. Let's hope it's still there in another 100 years.
that's a very smart-looking sign. trip to new york city? that's cool! nice shot, brian.you pay for your library card out there? that's strange. ours here is free and it doesn't have an expiry.
@kimshots Well this particular building has only been around since 1967 The origianl library building which was at a different location was torn down back in the early 1970's when they built a couple of skyscrapers
