No we did not take a trip to Australia, although I would love to visit there someday. This is one of the fleet of street cars that we have that run across the High Level Bridge on the weekends. It was built in 1947 and was used in Melbourne until 1997. This was taken as it approached the Strathcona Station.
faved for sure now! It's even going to st Kilda! couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this in your photos! This is a real melbourne tram from my childhood, i probably went on it 100's of times!
Didn't realise that any "green rattlers" were in use outside of Melbourne, let alone Australia...and complete with "St Kilda Beach" sign! I used to catch trams like this to school! How did that one end up overseas?
@wildwood28 The Edmonton Radial Railway Society which operates the trams is always looking for old trams that are no longer in use. They purchase them and fix them up and put them back in use here
@http365proj Thanks Shirley. They only get used here during the summer months for this jaunt across the bridge. Otherwise we do not have trams operating here either
Some cities still use them (new ones )
