So today was the last weekend for Shakespeare in the Park. They do not allow you to take pictures during the play so I took this one before it started. It is performed in the Heritage Amphitheatre down at Hawrelak Park. We had four tickets and were planning on taking in both shows. We went and saw A Midsummer Nights Dream. It was fantastic. This was an afternoon performance so we went for supper afterwards. By then we were both feeling tired so we went home.
Gave the other tickets away to some friends who used to live in the same building as us.
This was the 25th year for the festival
This is so much fun, Brian! I go every year to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. I "collect" performances of "Dream" and feel like I must have seen at least 20 separate performances over the years. What silliness. Thanks for posting1
Awesome...... We've been to several Shakespeare in the Park productions in Greybull Wyoming in different summers -- put on by a Montana group. Wish we could see more of their productions. Great to just sit on the grass or your camp chairs and enjoy the plays.....
we have an open park here in toronto in the west end where they stage shakespearean plays. i once took in a show. bad timing, as it was dusk, so i went home with plenty of mosquito bites. so now i just go to stratford if i want to see Shakespeare. it's always a good thing to see one play a year at least. i'm so glad that you and melody are enjoying the summer. very nice shot, brian.
@cathieg Glad to share this one with you Cathie. I have to say this performance was so much fun to watch. The actors were amazing and had us all laughing.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki. Last year we took in the evening performance and had to deal with those pesky critters. This time it was nice. I thought I would mention in case you missed the one shot I posted from Fort Edmonton Park of an old Toronto street car. I figured you might be interested in that one. Posted July 18
A perfect way to see a Shakespeare play out in the open as it would have been at the Globe Theatre in London all those years ago. Two plays in a row though might be a bit much!!!
What a beautiful shot, Brian. Sounds like a wonderful time. We have an open area and not covered over like this and starting today through Sunday they have the Strauss Festival with music and food vendors. We have never gone and hope to be able to check it out. They set up bleacher seats or you can bring a chair or blankets and sit on the lawn. This would be awesome to sit like this and relax.
@darsphotos Thanks Darlene. Thanks for the link as well. That festival looks like it would absolutely wonderful to take in. In fact I think I will have to add this to my list of events to take in. We have our Symphony in the Park. It is held in this same venue and is always a wonderful weekend. We are hopping to take that in this year
@bkbinthecity I sure wish that we had a set up like your photo. It would be so much more comfortable and in the shade. Have a great time. It is so nice that you have so many events in the park to enjoy at this same venue. Enjoy!
