It was this day in 1974 that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police swore in their first female recruits. 32 women across Canada became part of the force. Four of those were right here in Edmonton. This is a picture of the K-Division Headquarters as it looks like today. Men or women we are proud of those who serve in this capacity across our great nation
How interesting! Did not know that! My other half's grandpa served for 25 years in the top quarter of Saskatchewan for the RCMP! He's even made me try on his jacket. I know how proud many of these members are. This is a great tribute!!
The Canadian Mounties are well known the world over and obviously a great symbol for the nation. It surprised me somewhat to learn how late they started to hire women. Norway got its first female police constable in 1910.
