Today while walking through West Edmonton Mall I met Darla. Darla is part of the Marine and Animal Education Program at the mall. It is is designed to help young people learn about wildlife.
Darla is a Blue Tounged Skink and is native to Australia. It was quite interesting learning about her and being able to pet her as well. Yes she does have a blue tounge which acts as a defensive near sure as it leads predators to think she is poisonous. Apparently coloured tounges on reptiles usually indicates that they are poisonous
First, I love when you take photos of West Edmonton Mall. I was there on a business trip many years ago and loved it. Very unique mall. Love this shot and the story. Darla is pretty coll. great find and capture!
Beautiful blue tongue lizard. We have one in our garden who visits regularly every year. She lives in our wood shed during the winter and in summer regularly leaves about 12 babies each year. Blue tongues give birth to live young (they don't lay eggs). They can be very tame and definitely keep down our snail population.
Good shot! It's good to know that about reptiles, although finding me close enough to one so that I could tell if its tongue was colored or not will probably not happen within the 1,000 years!
