The Building

In yesterday's post about the old ad that was recently discovered it showed this building.
This building was built by Alexander Livingston between 1911-13. It was home to the Caladonia Department Store.
In 1917 the Great West Garment Company moved in and remained here until 1953.
In 1955 the Army and Navy moved in and remained here until 2003.
From 2003 -07 it was operated by the Red Strap Market .
It then sat empty until last year when the Edmonton City Farmers Market set up residence.
It holds up great. Lovely shot.

Now what does the farmers market sell in that massive building? I would think they only use the ground floor perhaps!

I'm glad to see that businesses are attempting to repurpose buildings. It's such a waste and a sad sight to see a building sitting empty and becoming derelict.
