Then and Now.....The Facade

Today we look at what is left of once a great building.
The Canadian Pacific Railway Building opened in 1913. Amongst other things it housed the Passenger Ticket Office, Freight Office and Telegraph Office.
When it opened it was one of the tallest buildings in Edmonton.
The top portion of the building was clad in brick and the facade was constructed out of limestone from Bedford, Indiana.
The building was faced in 1993 and torn down. All that was saved was the original facade.
At least they saved some of it!

Fortunate that they saved that much, at least.

At least they were able to save the limestone. I guess the rest of the building was too far gone. Good contrast comparison collage.

Good job they saved the facade. We love to search out old railways buildings

The facade is simply ornate (I know a bit of an oxymoron) but what I mean is that it's not over-the-top embellishment.

Only kept a small portion of the facade. I think they must be skirting some laws.

Nice to see that the original facade was saved and reused.
