The Spirit of Giving

Today we went with Melody's parents to their church. In the lobby was a display of shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
Every year their church participates in this program helping needy children around the world.
The bottom picture was part of the display which shows how many shoeboxes the church filled and sent out.

That box tree looks amazing! We have a similar charity here, but it only gets sent in our country. There are too many needy people here.

That is a wonderful project that we participate in each year through my Mother-in-law. She and a few of her friends put together several hundred boxes each year and then the family chips in to pay for the shipping.

I had a friend who died this fall who was a real devotee of Operation Christmas Child. For many years she would go to the headquarters and pack boxes. I knit socks for her to include in her boxes last year.
