Today l had to drive my mother-in-law to the hospital in Fort Saskatchewan, a small city north of Edmonton, for some day surgery.
The surgery went well. Since I had time on my hands l went and took some pictures.
This statue is entitled Acres of Dreams. It represents the early pioneer families who made there way out west to help establish the Province of Alberta.
It is a statue telling a story, but to me it speaks sadly. It might be hope they look at, but the other side of the coin is dislocation, searching for one's place. Not to mention that it gives me the creeps a bit. I don't know why. Maybe because of the idea of wandering around with your life packed in a chest and a luggage.
But it is a shot telling a story.
As an expat, moving all over the world, I admire those pioneers! Think it is a lovely statue and they must have had dreams and hope. The statue will look better in summer, because they are not dressed for snow ;)
I don’t always read the comments, but I have this time. It’s the first time they have influenced my view of the picture. As a work of art it certainly tells a story. But is it a good story? I don’t know. In its own right, and as first impression, I detected a sense of excitement at an arrival, and a new start.
A nice memorial to those who came before. Whether they arrived with hope or despair, they made it and because of them and people like them, your part of the world grew and flourished.
It's interesting how the season has made an impact on how people view this work of art. It must have been quite an adventure for those early pioneers. Good shot.
@monikozi Monica it certainly does tell a story. Living out west all my life l am grateful for pioneer families who were brave enough to venture out here
But it is a shot telling a story.
