Yesterday l mentioned the C&E railway that built the Strathcona Hotel. As more and more people started arriving in Edmonton a much larger station was needed. So the Canadian Pacific Railway stepped in and built a new station in 1907.
These two pictures show the front and rear of the building. When the railway stopped running along this section of the rail line the station shut down. Today it is home to a restaurant.
That's what we've done here in Ballater too and the rail tracks have been turned into cycling paths.However, the sad thing is that although that was perhaps a good idea at the time, we'd love to have the train back now, and it would be well used.
Lovely shots of times gone by. At least the building is still being used. Our local post office closed two years ago. This year a new restaurant opened in the building
@randystreat Out west we still have a passenger service called the Rocky Mounaineer. It runs from Jasper National Park out the west coast in Vancouver B.C
