2-3-21 mystery tower

I have driven by this tower for years and always wondered what it was. It is located in a nature preserve on the top of a small drumlin (long narrow hill left in the recession of a glacier). Was it an old kiln? An armored watchtower? Part of an old castle? Small nuclear reactor? I finally called the office at the Preserve and the mystery is solved. It is a water surge tank tower for the water system. From Wikipedia: “A Surge tank is a water storage device used as a pressure neutralizer in hydropower water conveyance systems in order to dampen excess pressure variance.” Not very exciting, but it would be disastrous if those pipes started hammering!
Three good things:
1. One loop in the mall is over a mile. I walked it twice
2. Dog play group outside tonight but I have new boots and iron oxide toe warmers
3. Should sleep well tonight!
I have never heard of that. How interesting

A cold and mysterious shot. It looks like it could be a missile silo...but actually I think those are underground.
Unfortunately I know all about water surge tanks. It's been recommended by a plumber that we replace our aging 'overflow' tank. I always wondered what the little tank in the closet under the stairs was all about.
