Thats it!! lol. She's spent the night in her new nest, refusing last night to come down, ignoring all offers of food and her heatpacks :-)
Talked to my sweetie today, and she's happily doing her own thing. She is still enjoying the food supply today, but my other half is becoming a stranger, she's not keen on going too close (completely different to yesterday where she sat on his head!). I guess all her squirrel instincts are kicking in and she's off to make a life for herself.
Its a bitersweet day for us humans, lol, but we are just delighted that she seems confident, strong (a great climber and likes chasing away the birds) and we can only guess that yes, she's been forced to grow up quick, she seems to be doing a good job of it.
Happened a lot quicker than we expected!
We are a bit concerned about her size, but apparently her tail is very well developed, so she was either undernourished when we got her, or the runt of the litter. We suspect both tbh! At least she would've got a fair bit of Mums milk at the beginning, so hopefully that will keep her as a healthy adult. She also seems to get on okay with the other squirrels that hang around, fingers crossed.
Ah well. Keeping her home and heat for a fair few more weeks, and of course keeping food on offer, but there's nothing else we can do now. Just sit back and watch her if she hangs around! Am pretty sure she'll be off in a few weeks and start again elsewhere. Good on her!
Thanks for this update. Sounds like she has fallen in with the right crowd and is learning all the positive stuff she needs to know to proceed into adulthood. Great job, mom!
well she is just about the cutest thing and I so glad to hear that she wanting to take care of her self! Ahah that's funny about your partner and squirrel instincts lol. Cuz i mean who doesn't have those ;) great photo and good update!
Wonderful! Definitely bittersweet but wonderful nonetheless. You have done a fantastic job with this cutie (both in care and photos!). Good on you! I suspect this is not the last photo of this cutie we will see. =)
Your daily photos and updates have completely captivated me! I don't believe anyone could have done more than you did, and it sounds as though the baby has sprouted wings and will move on to finish growing and becoming a whole. adult squirrel! Like Autumn, I almost suspect you'll see her again, and perhaps, when she's older, she'll return to eat peanuts from your hand. If that happens, please have your camera ready! This has been a fun ride!
((Guess I should Google "Haven"...not familiar with it. If I'm going to take pictures of *stars*, I suppose I should have an idea who I'm looking for...haha! We had Tom Selleck, Ethan Hawke, Donald Southerland...can't think of the rest, in town last summer... I'm not the *star struck* sort...just view them as people who have some really interesting jobs...))
Awww, well done in playing your part in helping Mother Nature along and sharing the process with us, I have loved following her story and what a great success, thanks for sharing!!
Another adorable photo!! Letting go is really hard, but i am sure she'll stick around for a while! You've been good parents to her, it's amazing how quickly she becamq independent! But, i guess, that's a good thing - she'll be able to survive on her own now. Will miss the cute photos of her...
I'm glad she seems to be adjusting well to the wild. I'm sure it's hard to see her go, but I think it's so great you were able to save her. Thanks for sharing her with us!
It's so wonderful when a wild animal sees their way back into their natural habitat. However, it's a little sad for us to see them go - like watching our own leave the nest.
But I'm glad this little squirrel has found her way into the world at her own pace. And you never know, she might come back for visit.
I really realy appreciate it :-)
